Netflix has been adding new content to its streaming platform, and the first three weeks of 2022 saw a rise in viewership of The Adam Project starring Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, and Corey Stoll. It did, however, experience a dip in viewership during the second and third weeks, but still received high ratings from critics and audiences alike. Read on for our full review of this film.
The Witch and The Lighthouse
The Witch and The Lighthouse is one of two recent works from the director David Eggers, who has a penchant for fanciful research. While the story has some elements of fiction, it is also based on a true story. It is hard to decide which is better, and the cast and crew do an excellent job. But in the end, both works are spooky, and both have their moments.
Robert Eggers' "The Northman"
While its story is unique, 'The Northman' is based on an Icelandic saga, which is loosely adapted from Shakespeare's 'Hamlet.' The film's director Dave Eggers, a native of Iceland, has a wealth of knowledge of Nordic folklore. He drew from the work of experimental archaeologists who spend a couple of weeks living like Vikings. His dialogue has the gravitas of myth, and he also references real sagas.
Mimi Cave's "Fresh"
Directed by Mimi Cave, Fresh attracted attention at Sundance 2022, where it premiered in the Midnight section. The jet-black satire, which aims to explore the sexist nature of dating, will land on Hulu on March 4. Although not for the faint of heart, "Fresh" is inspired by classic cannibal films and features a healthy dose of gore. The film is a provocative look at the dating culture of our age, which is centered around technology. As women, we are often treated shabbily in our society.
Pixar's "The Bad Guys"
DreamWorks Animation continues its solid run with "The Bad Guys," a heist movie with a style that's unique to this animation studio. The movie has plenty of great visuals and a wry wit. It's not as over-the-top or over-sold as some of its competitors, but it is smooth, silly and suave, making it an ideal summer family film.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
In its opening weekend, "Sonic The Hedgehog 2" scored a huge box office debut, racking up $71 million domestically, more than doubling the previous film's debut. It's also one of the top films of April in history, behind only Fast and Furious (31%) and Clash of the Titans (26%) with similar openings. The films' reception among critics has been largely positive, scoring a combined 63% on the Tomatometer for the original and the sequel. These figures are not merely encouraging, but they also point to the future of the genre, which is dominated by blockbuster blockbusters and superhero films.
Adam Sandler's "A Separation"
The title of Adam Sandler's new movie is a satire of a divorce court ruling. Its premise is a marriage that ends in divorce, but what happens when the two people involved can't get along? A judge sees the proposed split as a high-stakes marital bluff, where each party counts on the other to fold. The child, Termeh (Sarina Farhadi), is doomed to suffer because of her parents' refusal to compromise.
